Yevgeny Kafelnikov back for Lyoness Open
It is time once again for one of the most auspicious golfing events, the Lyoness Open. The stage for this event is the Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg.
Players from all over the world are going to gather at this platform to contend for the trophy. This event tees off from the 25th of July 2012 and ends on the 28th of July.
This event debuted in 1990 and for many years now, it has been a part of the European Tour. The last tournament Austrian Open took place in 2011 and it was won by English professional golfer, Kenneth Ferrie.
This year the biggest names in the world of golf are going to fight for the 1,000,000 Euro prize. The list of players also include former number one tennis player of the world, Yevgeny Kafelnikov.
Kafelnikov has many achievements in tennis. He started off his career in 1992 and retired in the year 2003. In singles, he has managed to bag the Australian Open and the French Open, in the years 1999 and 1996, respectively.
In doubles, he has won the French Open thrice in 1996, 1997 and 2002 and the US Open in 1997.
Kafelnikov is the last person to win the single and doubles title at the same grand slam championship. This was in the year 1996 and he was paired with Stephen Dodd and Swede Oskar Henningsson for the first two rounds.
Kafelnikov will be appearing in his second Tour event. He debuted in the year 2005, when he played the Russian Open for the first time.
His first two rounds were not up to the mark. He completed the first round in 89 strokes and the second one in the 80 shots.
Thus, he missed the half way cut by 27 shots. In the tournament, amateur Alexey Kovalev did even worse than him. He played 15 more strokes than the Russian professional golfer.
That may look bad, nonetheless, it was better than his first ever performance. It has been 4 years now and since then he has learned a great deal about golf. This year the 38-year-old will be looking for a good comeback.
