Yevheniy Bohodayko wins Men’s 200m IM gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Yevheniy Bohodayko of Ukraine won gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) in SM7 category on day four of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Sunday, September 2.
The Ukrainian swimmer demonstrated his astonishing efforts in the four-lap discipline and proved his eligibility for gold medal of the race.
With his persistent struggle, Bohodayko remained one body length faster from his subsequent swimmer and hit the wall for the title of the event with a timing of 2 minutes and 33.13 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Rudy Garcia-Tolson of USA, who remained 0.81 seconds apart and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 33.94 seconds.
Garcia-Tolson was followed by Matthew Levy of Australia, who remained nearly three body lengths behind and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 37.18 seconds.
The Australian swimmer was chased by Huaqiang Yang of China, who stayed three and a half body length slower from his former finisher and settled on the wall as fourth best finisher with a timing of 2 minutes and 40.52 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Mihovil Spanja of Croatia, who was exactly one second behind and completed his race in a time of 2 minutes and 41.52 seconds.
Spanja was followed by Jingang Wang of China, who remained nearly 0.60 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 42.13 seconds for sixth position.
Subsequently, Wang remained in a lead of 3.41 seconds over Lantz Lamback of USA, who remained prominent for seventh position of the IM discipline by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 45.54 seconds.
Last position of the race was obtained by Tobias Pollap of Germany, who failed to overpower any of his challengers and concluded his swim in eighth place by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 46.39 seconds.
Bohodayko was contented with his undisputed form in the 200m swim and articulated that he would try to defend his title in forthcoming events.
