Yi Ju Chiu powers her way into Women’s Singles main round of the 2011 Chinese Taipei Open
Chinese Taipei’s shuttler, Yi Ju Chiu powered her way into the Women’s Singles main round after beating compatriot, Yen Hua Chen in the qualifying round of the 2011 Chinese Taipei Open in Sinjhuang City, on Tuesday, September 6.
Ju Chiu proved her wonderful skills against Chen and won the battle with a narrow margin after working hard for three sets. She emerged as the winner in the final match of the qualifying round by taking 53 minutes in the court. She has now advanced into
the main round.
The local crowd could not have asked for better badminton as both shuttlers presented a top-quality game and remained close throughout the opening set of the match. They played tremendous badminton by executing all strokes and progressed closely until the
score reached at 21-21. At this stage, Ju Chiu made a crucial error and lost the set with a margin of 21-23, in 20 minutes.
However, Ju Chiu played an entirely different game in the second set and became quite aggressive at the net and in the rear court area. She spared no chance to execute powerful smashes and continued playing attacking badminton in the whole set.
Hua Chen failed to break the flow of her challenger throughout the second game. Ju Chiu finished the game with a 21-16 margin, in 15 minutes. With the win of Ju Chiu in the second game, both shuttlers remained in an equal position by winning 1-1 set each.
In the deciding set, the match entered into an interesting phase as both players displayed positive game. Until the break, Ju Chiu was slightly ahead of Hua Chen with a one-point difference of 11-10. The crowd went crazy with the fast rallies and wonderful
strokes from both sides.
After the interval, the contest remained tight until 20-20, when Ju Chiu played impressive badminton and scored two consecutive points to finish off the set with the margin of 22-20, in 18 minutes. This Women’s Singles entertaining battle ended with a 21-23,
21-16 and 22-20 margin.
