Yi Tang dominates Women’s 100m freestyle meet: Day two – 2011 World University Games
China’s Yi Tang dominated day two of the 2011 World University Games with her scintillating swim in Shenzhen, China, on Monday, August 15.
The session of the competition held the Women’s 100m freestyle final, where Tang produced a brilliant splash and snared the golden crown by posting a striking time of 54.24 seconds. More importantly, Tang beat Hannah Wilson’s record of 54.35 seconds, set
back at the 2009 edition of the meet. However, Yi was not able to beat her own previous best time of 54.08 seconds, set back in April, 2011.
Yi Tang won one silver and one bronze medal in the Women’s 4x100m IM and 4x200m freestyle events at the 2011 edition of the World Championships, in Shanghai. In addition, she won two gold medal in the 4x200m freestyle and 4x100m medley events at the 2010
edition of the championships, in Dubai. Moreover, Tang captured five gold medals at the 2006 and 2010 editions of the Asian Games, in Doha and Guangzhou, respectively. Furthermore, Tang snared six gold medals at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, in Singapore.
Currently, Yi Tang has been preparing hard for next year’s Olympic Games, in London. More importantly, she is looking really determined and motivated to win her first ever gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
In the meantime, Darya Stepanyuk of Ukraine won the silver medal of the meet by posting an impressive time of 55.32 seconds. Megan Romano of United Stated snared bronze medal of the competition by submitting a scintillating time of 55.38 seconds. Yayoi Matsumoto
of Japan wound up fourth on the podium by posting an impressive time of 55.53 seconds, while Kate Dwelley of United States rounded out the top five in a time of 55.61 seconds.
Natasha Hind of New Zealand was placed sixth in the respective meet by submitting a time of 55.77 seconds. Margaux Farrell of France was placed seventh in a time of 55.85 seconds, whereas, Erica Buratto of Italy finished eighth after she ended her swim in
a time of 56.18 seconds.
