Yikes! need help with passport/birth certificate stuff?

Alright so I need my passport, i know that and everything else, but i NEED my ORIGINAL birth certificate. I only have a copy, yet the lady at the USPS said theres some number i can call to get an original sent to me. Does anyone know what the number is or where i could be able to get one?

  1. If you're in the USA, you need to contact whoever keeps birth records for your state (or the state where you were born, if you've moved).  It's usually somewhere in the capitol city.

    Check with your county courthouse, they can tell you who to contact.  Or check with a hospital where babies are born, they can give you the information, too.


  2. There's not a national number for this.

    You'll need to connect with the Vital Statistics department of the local government where you were born.  This is usually at the county government offices or courthouse.

  3. The number to call for your original birth certificate is different for everyone.  Call the town where you were born and speak to the Village Clerk.  They should have that information right on file.  I always ask for more than one copy so that I have one with my important papers.
