Ying Hon Yeung wins third stage as Kamnabi celebrates overall lead in Tour of East Java 2011
Hong Kong team’s Ying Hon Yeung showed a tremendous performance in the third and final stage of Tour of East Java 2011 on Sunday, September 25 as Jahanbanian Kamnabi successfully defended the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The race started and finished in Surabaya. The 23-year-old Chinese road cyclists took a total of 4 hours, 33 minutes and 23 seconds to cover the large distance of 185 kilometres in the very hot weather.
In the final kilometres, Hong Kong team controlled the situation of the stage and the race leader Kamnabi tried his best to take a lead but failed as Yeung easily beat him. His team-mate was in third place with a difference of 42 seconds.
Jimmy Pranata (Polygon Sweet Nice Surabaya), Nawuti Liphongyu (Thailand) and Dani Lesmana (Polygon Sweet Nice Surabaya) were in eighth, ninth and tenth place respectively.
With few kilometres to go, the group of five cyclists made their breakaway lead including, Ying Hon Yeung, Hossein Jahanbanian Kamnabi (Tabriz Petrochemical Team), Kam Po Wong (Hong Kong), Alizadeh Hossein (Tabriz Petrochemical Team) and Kaswanto (Seven
Stones).
All of them put in a lead of a few seconds while Kaswanto and Hossein launched an attacked but were unable to hold the pace. Nonetheless, Yeung crossed the finish line ahead of the other cyclists.
The six cyclists including, Sea Keong Loh (Malaysia), Nathan Dahlberg (Plan B Racing Team) and Junaidi Hashim (OCBC Singapore) were disqualified.
Recently, Yeung took the National Championship of Hong Kong and in 2010 he took a stage in Tour de Korea.
Tabriz Petrochemical team’s Johanbanian Kamnabi took the overall lead with a time of 8 hours, 40 minutes and 13 seconds. The previous stage leader Boris Shpilevsky failed to retain his yellow jersey and took the overall 12th place with a difference
of 1 minute and 7 seconds.
Tabriz manager Khatoun Kazem Abadi commented that it did not really matter who took the yellow jersey but the important concept is that the team becomes Champions.
The stage winner, Yeung was in runner-up spot with 41 seconds and Hossein Alizadeh finished third at 48 seconds down to Kamnabi.
