Yip Pui Yin outshines Li Michelle in second round of US Open GPG – Badminton News
Women’s Singles player Yip Pui Yin played flawless badminton in the opening round of Yonex OCBC US Open GPG and marched into the pre quarter-final round on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
This epic 56-minute tussle put her against another talented shuttler Li Michelle who stood tall throughout this three-set match. Both contenders pushed each other in all areas of game and ended this match with a nerve-racking result
of 20-22, 21-14 and 21-10.
In the opening game, Li Michelle ruled the court and bagged this valuable match point on merit. However, it proved her last success in this GP Gold event as the opposing shuttler claimed remaining two points with distinction.
The Canadian campaigner Li served notice of her potential immediately in the establishing rallies of first set as she pocketed many points in a row. She kept on moving forward on the points table and doubled her total in next couple
of rallies.
At the half time, Li was in commanding position but then few consecutive mistakes jeopardised her stakes. She kept on trailing behind on the points table but then a series of productive strokes helped her to register a winning
margin of 22-20.
The second set of match proved a dead contest as a strong backlash of Pui Yin did not give the opposing shuttler even a single chance to proceed. This time the Hong Kong shuttler looked in prime touch as she bagged many valuable
points without any interruption and gained a decent advantage.
In first half of the set, she prevailed in many consecutive rallies and placed a respectable total of 11. She capitalised this advantage in the latter part of game and wrapped this segment of the showdown with 21-14 margin.
The decider was expected to be a nerve-racking contest but it proved a one-sided affair. This time the Women’s Singles expert Pui Yin started the beating from very first stroke and kept on playing with an authoritative approach
till the final moments.
She maintained a significant difference of eleven points and swept the table with 21-10 score on the board. Now she will lock horns with Jamie Subandhi in pre quarter-final round.
