Yip Pui Yin overwhelms Saya Yamamoto in pre quarter-final round – Macau Open Update
Women’s Singles expert Yip Pui Yin lived up to her billing in the second round of Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold and powered her way to the quarter-finals on November 29, 2012.
World Number 21 Pui Yin, who holds fourth spot in tournament ranking, stamped Saya Yamamoto of Japan by registering a favourable result of 23-21 and 21-15.
However, it was not an easy win as she had to sweat hard for 49 minutes to seal this splendid straight-set victory.
Pui Yin displayed commendable fighting spirit in the opening game as she bagged first match point despite of staying at the lower end in most part of this segment.
In first half of the set, Saya Yamamoto unleashed a flurry of well placed strokes and pocketed six points in a row.
She capitalised this initial lead in next couple of rallies and strengthened her grip. This emphatic performance helped her to get into commanding position with 11-7 total.
The Japanese campaigner did not lose focus and carried this rhythm even after the mid-game break. She employed an unbeatable strategy and confounded her challenger in third quarter of the set.
It was felt that Saya Yamamoto will easily claim this opening match point but then the opposing shuttler came in her way.
Pui Yin showed a transformed character in the final stage and caught her competitor with 19-19 margin.
She bagged four out of ending six points and finished first set of the match with a tight yet decisive score of 23-21.
The following game remained interesting just until the one-minute break as Pui Yin completely outclassed her rival in latter part of the game.
The Hong Kong shuttler did not show any sign of confusion and established a decent lead with 7-4.
Though, she let few valuable points slip from the hands which ultimately weakened her grip but then couple of productive rallies reinstated her dominance.
Pui Yin mounted pressure with a mountainous figure of 11 and then magnified the impact by registering 17-10 score.
She maintained that lead until last shot was played and locked the honour to be in the quarter-finals with 21-15 margin.
