Yiwen Shao wins Women’s 200m freestyle heats – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Yiwen Shao of China won the qualifying rounds of Women’s 200m freestyle on first day of the sixth stop of FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup in Beijing, China on Friday, November 2, 2012.
The Chinese swimmer overpowered her opponents in the short course freestyle discipline as she earned her way into the playoff as top fastest swimmer.
With her unmatchable efforts in the qualification round, Shao managed to outperform her toughest competitor over the finishing end as she posted a time of 1 minute and 56.56 seconds.
Her gruelling effort remained 0.08 seconds quicker from compatriot Yuhan Qiu, who entered the final round as second best finisher by submitting a time of 1 minute and 56.64 seconds.
Qiu was trailed by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who was just two strokes behind and transpired on the finishing end as third best finisher by reporting a time of 1 minute and 57.03 seconds.
Hosszu was followed by Ruiqi Wang, who stayed 0.37 seconds slower from upsetting her former finisher and surfaced on the wall as fourth finest swimmer by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 57.40 seconds.
Wang was traced by Sishi Zhang, who stayed just an inch away from her foregoing finisher and occupied fifth spot. Zhang remained only 0.15 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 57.55 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by Kelly Stubbins of Australia, who was 0.12 seconds behind and completed her swim in a time of 1 minute and 57.67 seconds.
Stubbins was traced by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who was half a body length behind and ended her swim in seventh best place by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 58.12 seconds.
Last spot of the event was secured by Melanie Schlanger of Australia, who stayed only 0.01 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as eighth position holder with an effort of 1 minute and 58.13 seconds.
In addition, Shao was contented with her fastest qualification effort and stressed that she would try hard to achieve the same in the playoff of the event.
