Yixin Bao and Zhong Qianxin advance into Women’s Doubles final of the 2011 Japan Open Super Series
China’s emerging pair of Yixin Bao and Zhong Qianxin displayed a terrific performance when they defeated higher ranked Mizuki Fujii and Reika Kakiiwa of Japan in the Women’s Doubles semi-final of the 2011 Japan Open Super Series, in Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday,
September 24.
Chinese shuttlers, Yixin and Zhong, who are currently ranked at Number 90 in the Women’s Doubles world rankings, stunned the World Number Four pair of Mizuki and Reika in their home ground.
The Japanese shuttlers, who were seeded at number three in the Women’s Doubles draw of the event, failed to live up to expectations of the huge local crowd as their Chinese opponents played wonderful badminton throughout the match.
The lower ranked Yixin and Zhong opened the first game in a nervous manner, as they could not control the pace of the bird. The higher ranked Japanese shuttlers controlled the pace of the rallies from the start and maintained it throughout the whole opening
game.
The Chinese duo made numerous mistakes at the net, as they were not fast in this area when compared to their rivals. Yixin and Zhong lost the first set in 29 minutes with the margin of 17-21.
Nevertheless, the Chinese youngsters made an impressive comeback in the second set of the match, when they played terrific badminton and remained close to their experienced challengers. In the whole game the score progressed equally and at the stage of 22-22,
the Chinese duo played wonderful strokes and won the set by a 24-22 margin in 34 minutes.
The final set of this wonderful semi-final showdown was stunning for the Japanese shuttlers, as Yixin and Zhong played flawless badminton and spared no chance for their opponents to control the rallies. In the whole third game, the Chinese pair remained
ahead and won it by a margin of 21-15 in 28 minutes.
The result of this long, 91-minutes semi-final was 17-21, 24-22 and 21-15. In the final match, Yixin and Zhong will face World Number Five pair of Cheng Wen Hsing and Chien Yu Chin of Chinese Taipei.
