Y=mx+b origins? PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

please i NEED an answer. i will give the 10 points to the best answer. listen: i have a 500 point essay in my math class on the origins of a mathematical equation. i picked from a hat, and i got y=mx+b: easy, right... WRONG!!!!! i can't find anything on who made it, why, when, where, etc... please send me any link that you believe can help. I M DESPERATE!!!!!!!!! i don't want u to do it, i only need a few links, so don't send me nothin on how i should do the essay on my own. OK, this is part of my finals grade and it has to be at least 3 pages single spaced. I NEED HELP!!!!

  1. I dunno if this will help, but here goes...

    y=mx+b is the equation for finding the slope of a line.

    m equals the slope

    x and y are the first and second numbers in a coordinate (x,y)

    b is equal to the y-intercept (where the line crosses the vertical axes)
