In Philadelphia itself, Termini Brothers is a fabulous Italian bakery (http://www.termini.com/ ), and Miel Patisserie is a fabulous French bakery (http://philadelphia.citysearch.com/profi... )

Sarcone's has the best bread.  Termini's hasn't been good for years.  Potito's has pretty good cake.  Cacia's has pretty good bread.  Stock's has the best chocolate chip poundcake ever baked.

In my opinion, the best bakeries appear outside of the city, though, I'm sure there's much resistance to the idea - my favorite bakery is Fritz's in Croydon on State St.
