After being out of action since the preseason, Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Yoann Gourcuff has come out of his silence and has said that he is looking forward to playing for Les Gones once again.
In an interview with Le Monde, the 25-year-old spoke about his first season with Les Gones in which he failed to rise upto expectations. The youngster signed for Lyon from Bordeaux in a big-money move but failed to impress the Lyon faithful.
While talking about life after his 22 million Euros transfer, the youngster said that there were times when he did not enjoy playing because he was not playing the way he had been playing at Bordeaux.
Gourcuff also said that too much was expected of him when he first arrived at the Rhone club.
“When I arrived at OL, I was greeted like a hero. I was not prepared for this craze. I will never make a difference individually. I was singled out. But I have no feeling of revenge. I am able to do much better. I tended to prove or maybe I tried too hard,”
said the former AC Milan player before accepting that his influence at Lyon was close to nothing in his first season.
While talking about his match fitness, Gourcuff said that his ankle is fine and he is available for selection. Gourcuff however added that it will take him some time to return to his true form and also said that he would love to win a title for Lyon.
With the European Championships on the horizon, Gourcuff knows that he will have to work really hard in order to make it to Laurent Blanc’s squad for the mega event in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Poland-c2983 in 2012.
“I miss it (playing for France). Playing for Les Bleus is great. If a perform well and don’t worry about the future, I might get selected but obviously there is a lot of competition so I’ll see what happens at the end of the season,” said Gourcuff about
his chances of playing for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 at the European Championships.
With young player Clement Grenier proving to be a future star of the club, Gourcuff’s form will play an essential role in him making a comeback as a true star for Lyon and France. However, this time there will be no excuses for failure as most of the Lyon
players are slowly realising their true potential under Remi Garde.
