The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international’s stay at Stade de Gerland is costing Olympique Lyonnais a lot of money and reports claim that Jean-Michel Aulas will be tempted into selling the playmaker if a good offer comes up
Devoid of a Championelle since 2008, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 president, Jean-Michel Aulas is very keen on restoring the club back to its previous grandeur. And for that very aim, the Frenchman splashed 22 million euros in the summer market of 2010 to sign Yoann
Gourcuff from FC Girondins de Bordeaux.
In the previous season (2009/2010), the playmaker was an integral part of the Bordeaux side that lifted the Championelle. The former AC Milan player arrived at Stade de Gerland with a lot of expectations surrounding him.
However, things did not work out the way everyone expected. Today, Gourcuff is far from the success that the Rhone club’s leaders thought him to be. Instead, his first two years were spent more on the club’s treatment table than on the field.
Despite a good comeback this season, the 25-year-old is still far from the player who mesmerised the folks at Stade Chaban Delmas. Repeated injuries and inconsistent performances have made http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yoann-Gourcuff-c37416 one of the biggest flops in the history of the club
and it appears that the Ploemeur-born midfielder will struggle to return to his past best.
Due to the club’s financial woes, president Jean-Michel Aulas has already said that he will be forced to sell a few players in the upcoming winter transfer window in order to reduce burden on the wage bill. The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-Bastos-c25461, Bafetimbi Gomis and
Lisandro Lopez have all been linked with moves away from the seven-time champions of France.
However, Aulas has recently stated that he has no plans of selling Gourcuff.
“Yoann Gourcuff will be there on January 31 (2012),” said Aulas, this putting an end to rumours of a transfer in January.
However, the fact remains that the player’s stay is costing Lyon a lot of money – 11.5 million euros to be precise. This is indeed a huge amount a team that wants to balance its books, is paying to a player who has not justified his hefty price tag.
