Jean-Michel Aulas is glad to see his playmaker make a strong comeback from injury despite the fact that his team lost the game against OGC Nice in the Coupe de la Ligue
Olympique Lyonnais’ 3-1 Coupe de la Ligue defeat at the hands of former coach, Claude Puel’s OGC Nice was also an opportunity to see http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yoann-Gourcuff-c37416 return to first-team duties. The former Bordeaux man had missed eight weeks of action
for Remi Garde’s man due to a knee injury.
Many people expected that midfielder to lie on the treatment table for a little while longer. However, Gourcuff has made a swift recovery and his performance in the defeat against Les Aiglons was pretty much satisfactory.
The last time Gourcuff played for Les Gones was in a 4-1 Ligue 1 win over Troyes and since then, the club from Rhone has not been able to find that spark that only their star playmaker can provide. Unfortunately, the Frenchman has never been able to produce
those commanding displays that earned him the attention of all footballing world.
However, Lyon can now look towards their midfielder who gave a good account of his skills in the cup defeat. Although crashing out of the competition is a heavy setback as the seven-time Ligue 1 champions bid adieu to a potential trophy, many people were
more satisfied and glad to see Gourcuff return to action.
And, it was Gourcuff’s pass that saw Bafetimbi Gomis score Lyon’s only goal of the game. Subsequently, his teammates and the coaching staff have shown their confidence in his ability. In the 63 minutes he played, Gourcuff rarely made a mistake, something
that delights president Jean-Michel Aulas.
Sad to see his team crash out of a cup competition, Aulas was delighted to see his star man play ever so well.
“It was not the behaviour of a player injured for eight weeks. This is good news even though I wish it coincided with a collective good result,” said Aulas.
And, Gourcuff is also happy to see himself return to his usual self but maintains that seeing his team win would have been better.
“Crashing out of the Coupe de la Ligue, that is unfortunate. I am disappointed because a cup is always a goal. I should be satisfied (for the medical staff). But I’m not. Because the team comes first and we were eliminated. When I play, I’m always 100% physically.
Otherwise, it would be cheating.”
