Yoann Turlan sends Lukas Zevl packing in Men’s Singles event of 2012 Victor Slovak Open
Men’s Singles campaigner Yoann Turlan of France showed commendable fighting spirit and thrashed Lukas Zevl in his opening match of the Victor Slovak Open on September 7, 2012.
This first round match was played at local badminton arena of Presov in Slovakia and it kept both contenders head-to-head for 53 minutes before ending with 14-21, 21-15 and 21-11 margin.
The Czech shuttler had a great start but he could not show consistency in his performance and lost the last two match points.
Meanwhile, Yoann looked in prime touch as he did not lose heart after first set loss and saved some honour by ruling the court in last two games.
In the opening game, he took some time to get settled and this sluggishness ultimately cost him a vital match point.
He could not move swiftly across the court and dropped many points in a row. He strived hard to come out of this deficit but failed to hit the mark.
Lukas Zevl relished full benefits of this situation and established an unassailable lead with figure of 11 before the interval.
He carried this momentum in latter part of the game and kept the opposing shuttler under his influence until the last shot was played. He swept the table with an overwhelming margin of 21-14.
However, it proved his last success in this tournament as Yoann showed elevated craft in very next game and brought the contest to the right balance.
The French campaigner played with great conviction and did not give his challenger even a single counter-attack opportunity.
He set the foundation of his supremacy by prevailing in a couple of uninterrupted rallies and then strengthened his grip with few back-to-back points before the mid-game break.
After the interval, Lukas Zevl showed some spark but that was not enough to burn down his competitor who won second set with 21-15 score on the board.
Third set of the match was also dominated by Yoann Turlan as he outclassed his opponent in all areas of the game.
He placed a winning total of 21-11 and marched into the second round where he will be up against Jakub Bitman.
