Yoenis Cespedes could win Rookie of the Year Award – MLB Update
Oakland Athletics' left fielder Yoenis Cespedes might win this year’s Rookie of the Year Award for his extraordinary performance after showing his talents in his very first year in the Major League Baseball.
He batted with .292 hitting average along with 23 homers, 82 strike-outs and .356 OBP.
Cespedes, who defected from his native country (Cuba) in last winter to play in the biggest baseball league in the world, played exceptionally well for the A’s and earned this great achievement of being nominated in finalists of 2012 best rookies.
Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout and Texas Rangers' Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish are others who have been nominated by the members of Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
For Oakland, this news is also ecstatic, as their manager Bob Melvin is also nominated among the best-three American League Manager of the Year.
Baltimore Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter and Chicago White Sox’s skipper Robin Ventura are also in the limelight as they too might win this award.
“The sky is literally the limit, He has a chance to be an elite player in the game. All the way around, for a guy that had to adjust and deal with many things that nobody else had to deal with, pretty amazing what he accomplished. Hopefully he'll do even better next year," Melvin said of Cespedes at the end of the season.
"Just amazing, You saw him get better day by day to the point where you could see teams fearing him. He had never played left field and struggled right out of the gate, and by the last month of the season he was outstanding out there,” general manager Billy Beane said of Cespedes and told the reporters about his true talent.
This is a healthy sign for the A’s as they now possess Cespedes’ services. He is good player and contributed well in the Athletics season long wins.
Athletics, during the regular season, proved his class and showed his true offensive game. Not only did he provide the Athletics a positive focus, but his extraordinary plays led the Oakland Athletics into post season for the first time in six years.
