The day care that my nephew goes to is teaching them

yoga poses.

He taught me yoga the last time I visited him.

Is day care much more sophisticated than I was in it or what is going on??

  1. As a nanny I have some yoga dvd's for kids. They are child orientated and lots of fun for the children to watch and join in. They are very relaxing and calming. Imagine children learning how to become/stay relaxed or quiet and focused( this doesn't happen overnight but it's a good start!) It's a great tool that is relatively inexpensive, good for the kids and fun!

  2. i think its cool.. i have a 4 yr old...nothin wrong with stretchin thoselilmuscles.. and everything changes with time...

  3. That sounds like a really good idea to me. Our preschool has Spanish and Music/movement classes.

  4. I think its great.....

  5. They're experimenting with techniques.

  6. I have to say there are times when people and places go abit overboard.  But as a mom to 3 children there are 2 types of play that we recognize.

    1. The seemingly disorganized play that children do.  Running here, there, wrestling, playing with cars and 30 other toys at once, more running, hiding, bouncing, and jumping.

    2. Adult organized/initiated play.  Lots of these places do not have the space, or the kid skills to let these kids just play as they are wired to do. 40 kids going willy-nilly would be far to chaotic. So care centers, and I, myself, from time to time will organize a play or exercise (though you'll never catch me calling it exercise) time.  For instance my kids LOVE when I yell "DANCE PARTY"  I set the stage, crank the tunes, and they wig out in one room!  It's fun, and hilarious. Best of all I'm not chasing the 2 year old all over the place for at least, oh, 10 minutes? A record, I know!

Honestly, on one hand it's a little sad that places have to do these things, and even sadder that parents will pay more for places that offer "yoga-for-kids." Nothing's better than a good ol' romp in the great out doors. Saddest of all is that many kids only see 2 hours total of outside time a day.  Outside exploring, running, sledding in the snow, mushing through rain puddles, that's better than yoga, and dance party anyday!
