Yolane Kukla wins Women’s 50m freestyle heats: Day two - Santa Clara International Grand Prix
Yolane Kukla of Queensland, Australia won the qualification rounds of Women’s 50m freestyle on day two of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix in California on Saturday, June 2.
The 16-year-old Kukla stunned the aquatic crowd with her blistering pace in the single lap freestyle event. With her alluring efforts, she outsmarted her strongest opponent over the finishing end and qualified into the final for gold medal with the timing
of 25.64 seconds.
She was followed by Madison J Kennedy of SwimMAC Carolina, who was only 0.02 seconds slower and entered the final round with the timing of 25.66 seconds.
Third finest qualification spot of the event was secured by Kukla’s teammate, Lisbeth Trickett, who stayed 0.03 seconds apart and tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 25.69 seconds.
Trickett was chased by Lara M Jackson of Tucson Ford Deal, who stayed only 0.01 seconds slower and posted a time of 25.70 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth finest spot of the event was obtained by Liv E Jensen of California Aquatics, who was just a touch away from her former finisher and posted a time of 25.74 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed gruelling efforts of Anthony L Ervin of California Aquatics in the Men’s equivalent event.
The 31-year-old Ervin remained considerably faster from his competitors in the 50m discipline and posted a time of 22.46 seconds.
He was followed by David H Dunford of Unattached-PC, who was half body length behind and posted 23.01 seconds to enter the playoff.
Similarly, Dunford remained 0.03 seconds ahead of William F Copeland of California Aquatics, who transpired on the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 23.04 seconds.
Copeland remained 0.05 seconds faster from Takuro Fujii of Japan, who captured fourth best qualifying position of the discipline with the timing of 23.09 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was secured by Bennett G Clark of California Aquatics, who posted a time of 23.12 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all planned events while these finalists will face each other in the playoffs of their respective events to secure the podium for gold medal.
