Yonex All England Open: Xiaolong Liu and Zihan Qiu wrap up their first Men’s Doubles title
China’s young and spirited players Xiaolong Liu and Zihan Qiu showed a staggering performance in the arena and managed to grab their first Men’s Doubles title at a premier super series event at Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships 2013 on Sunday,
March 10, in Birmingham.
The un-seeded Chinese shuttlers, who played remarkable badminton all the way to the final of the championship, continued their inspiring performance and outplayed their fourth seeded challengers Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa of Japan in just 38 minutes.
Xiaolong and Zihan were in smashing form in the arena as they played with incredible speed and control throughout the final contest and they easily outplayed the higher ranked Japanese shuttlers in straight games with a lopsided 21-11 and 21-9 score on the
board.
Meanwhile, the fourth seeded Hiroyuki and Hayakawa did not expect such a terrific performance from their lower ranked Chinese shuttlers. They could not put up strong resistance at any stage in the title match and lost it in a humiliating manner.
Xiaolong and Zihan showed some wonderful aggression in the arena from the initial points of first set by building a huge pressure on their Japanese opponents.
The hard-to-learn variations in Xiaolong and Zihan’s shots helped them to maintain their domination against their higher ranked rivals as they played flawless badminton.
Chinese shuttlers did not show any respect to their spirited challengers in the starting half and took a tremendous lead in the arena until the one-minute break.
The aggressive Xiaolong and Zihan remained comfortable in the arena after the mid-game interval as they continued playing with the same aggressive approach.
Xiaolong and Zihan did not reduce the pace of the game at any stage and comfortably grabbed the first set with a stunning 21-11 margin on the board.
Things were similar in the second game of this final contest of the championship as Xiaolong and Zihan played in the similar aggressive fashion and remained in complete control of rallies.
Xiaolong and Zihan were in incredible form as they continued their impressive speed and dictated the pace in the opening half and took a smashing lead until the break.
After the break, Hiroyuki and Hayakawa failed to show strong performance because the lower ranked Xiaolong and Zihan played better game and secured the set with a stunning 21-9 margin on the board.
