Yonex Canada Open Grand Prix 2012: Curtis Stensland power his way into Men’s Singles second round
Curtis Stensland, an upcoming shuttler from USA, stormed into Men’s Singles second round after putting up phenomenal show in first round when he crushed his local challenger Andy Ko at the Yonex Canada Open Grand Prix 2012 in Canada, on Wednesday, July 11.
The lofty Stensland showed his elevated craft when he played positive and planned badminton against his Canadian opponent and wrapped up a convincing victory by ending up the contest in just 23 minutes.
The USA shuttler was one class above his rival as he played with control and precision especially on crucial situations in the match and remained successful in ousting his opponent in straight sets with an impressive difference on the board.
The local man, on the other hand, played well in opening parts of both games but failed to maintain his focus in ending parts and eventually crashed out without winning any game from his USA opponent.
In the first game, both men showed a spirited display of aggressive shots and remained toe-to-toe until the score reached at 8-8.
At this stage, Stensland played a few beautiful shots from rear court area and forced his rival to get into a defensive position. It helped him to take a slight advantage in opening half by reaching at 11-8.
After the mid-game interval, Stensland stretched his lead by keeping the pace at the maximum level as he did not let his rival to play attacking badminton.
The USA shuttler was in commanding position and took the first set with a huge margin of 21-12.
In the second game, Andy played different badminton this time as he played positive badminton while executing powerful shots from all areas.
Until the one-minute break, Stensland could not take any lead this time as his rival was positive on court.
After the break, Stensland took the bird early and executed superb net shots coupled with strong pushes and powerful smashes.
The positive play of Stensland at the ending phase of second game made the difference and he easily wrapped up the set with a 21-17 margin on the board.
Stensland found a superb win in Men’s Singles first round by consuming just 23 minutes with a convincing margin of 21-12 and 21-17.
