Yonex Denmark Open 2012: Christian Lind Thomsen stuns Eric Pang in Men’s Singles qualifying round
Christian Lind Thomsen, one of the most spirited Danish shuttlers, played to his maximum potential and remained successful in creating an upset in Men’s Singles qualifying round when he toppled his higher ranked challenger Eric Pang of Netherlands at the Yonex Denmark Open 2012 on Tuesday, October 16, in Denmark.
The impressive Christian Lind, who was an un-seeded player in the qualifying round, delivered a phenomenal performance on court and remained successful in beating the fourth seeded Eric in a 64-minute contest.
Backed by the support of home fans, Christian Lind played with aggression throughout the match and managed to overpower his Dutch opponent in hard-fought three games with a decent margin on the score board.
In the meanwhile, the higher ranked Eric remained unable to prove his mettle on court as he could not create any trouble for his local opponent in the final set and eventually crashed out by losing the contest with a respectable margin.
The opening game was quite shocking for the fourth seeded Dutch shuttler who failed to stop the spirited play of his challenger and remained miles behind at 5-11 until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, Christian Lind continued showing impressive performance but his rival also made a great effort and managed to make the score levelled at 19-19.
However, Danish player controlled his nerves at this crucial stage and managed to grab the set with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the following game, Eric played on a different level sparing no chance for his Danish opponent to stay close until the end of first half.
After the one-minute break, Christian Lind tried to play positive badminton but he failed to match the skills of his at net and lost the set with a one-sided 9-21 score on the board.
Nevertheless, Danish shuttler proved his class in the final set as he employed all of his reserves and created pressure on his challenger.
Christian Lind was in commanding position in the final set and he did not commit any mistake in winding it up with a good margin of 21-17.
The spirited Christian Lind won the battle against Eric in three games with a 21-19, 9-21 and 21-17 score on the board.
