Yonex Denmark Open 2012: Simon Santoso narrowly passes first round test against Wei Feng Chong
Indonesia’s ace shuttler Simon Santoso found himself in all sorts of trouble in Men’s Singles first round but managed to find a way out, thanks to his experience, and narrowly defeated Malaysia’s Wei Feng Chong at the Yonex Denmark Open 2012 on Wednesday,
October 17, at Odense, Denmark.
The in-form Santoso, who is Currently World Number Five and fourth seed in Men’s Singles main draw of the championship, put in extra effort to emerge as the winner against his Malaysian rival in a nail-biting contest that took 63 minutes on top class badminton.
Indonesian shuttler could not find an ideal start in the opening game but he found a good rhythm in the following games and eventually ended up the contest in rubber sets with a close margin on the score board.
The lower ranked Wei Feng, in the meanwhile, employed his remarkable skills and snatched the opening set but he could not maintain his positive run on court and lost the following both games with a respectable margin.
In the first game, Santoso could not dominate the pace of rallies and also remained struggling to return the shots of his opponent in right areas and stayed behind until the break.
After the one-minute interval, Indonesian player geared up his speed to create pressure on his opponent and eventually lost the first set with a 16-21 score on the board.
In the second set, Santoso played batter badminton as he took the bird early and dominate the game at net which helped him to take a small lead until the end of first half.
After the one-minute break, Santoso changed his tactics and played with aggression to keep his rival in defensive position and took the set with a 21-17 score on the board.
In the deciding game, both players showed their impressive craft and kept the crowd intact all the way and reached at 16-16.
At this stage, Santoso dominated the pace of rallies and managed to finish up the set with a total of 21-17.
The in-form Santoso narrowly overpowered Wei Feng in this breath-taking contest with a 16-21, 21-17 and 21-17 margin on score board.
