Yonex Denmark Open: Du Pengyu outfoxes Chun Seang Tan in Men’s Singles quarter-final contest
China’s young and aggressive player Du Pengyu stayed at the top of his form and advanced into Men’s Singles semi-final after ending up the winning run of Malaysia’s Chun Seang Tan at quarter-final stage in Yonex Denmark Open 2012 on Friday, October 19, in
Odense.
The impressive Pengyu, who is World Number Nine and seventh seed in the main draw of the championship, showed up his lofty craft and easily sent his Malaysian rival packing in 41 minutes.
Pengyu had to dig into his arsenal to claim the opening set of this contest but he showed no mercy to his Malaysian opponent in the following game and finished up the contest in straight sets with a convincing margin.
The lower ranked Chun Seang, on the other hand, failed to maintain his staggering performance in the event as he was unable to match the incredible speed of his rival and eventually went down without securing any set.
In the first game, both shuttlers started their run in a fast and attacking fashion but it was the spirited Malaysian shuttler who played with variations and took a smashing lead of 11-6 until the end of opening half.
However, Chun Seang could not maintain the gap on score board as he failed to put up strong show and started to commit mistakes by throwing the bird into the net or out of the court.
In the meanwhile, Pengyu remained fully focused and he dominated the pace of rallies throughout the concluding half and eventually took the set with a nail-biting margin of 21-19.
The second set of this Men’s Singles contest was completely lopsided when Pengyu unleashed his incredible smashes and deceptive shots at net and stayed in command until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, the higher ranked Chinese shuttler sailed smoothly by keeping the pace of rallies at the highest level.
Pengyu did not make any mistake in finishing up the second game in a fantastic fashion with a 21-8 score on the board.
The lofty Chinese player thrashed his Malaysian rival in this straight-set quarter-final battle in 41 minutes with a dominating total of 21-19 and 21-8.
