Yonex Denmark Open: Koo Kien Keat – Tan Boon Heong find a perfect start in Men’s Doubles category
Malaysia’s best players Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong could not have expected for a better start as they defied all odds and overpowered Korea’s experienced shuttlers Lee Yong Dae and Ko Sung Hyun in Men’s Doubles first round at the Yonex Denmark Open
2012 on Wednesday, October 17, in Odense.
The World Number Six Kien Keat and Boon Heong, who are struggling to retain their prestigious position, worked really hard on court and managed to show exit to their Korean challengers in a sensational fight.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong were in all sorts of trouble in the first game but they found a wonderful flow in the following sets and remained successful in winning the match in rubber games with a decent score on the board.
On the other hand, the Korean shuttlers were impressive in their first game but failed to find a good rhythm in the following games and eventually lost the battle with a respectable score on the board.
After match Kien Keat stated, “I think I have been most successful in the Denmark Open. It is one of my favourite venues and this win today against the Koreans will be special.”
He further added, “Yong-dae is the experienced one but we also knew that his new partner will be no pushover. We knew the match won’t be easy. But the opening game was a disaster. We were like kids playing against adults. My smashes were going into the net
... but the hunger for victory was really strong and I am glad we pulled it off.”
Kien Keat and Boon Heong have been losing to Korean players on different occasions but this time they put up wonderful show and earned a much needed victory to find back their confidence.
In the opening game, Kien Keat and Boon Heong could not play positive badminton and also could not cope up with the speed of their opponents and lost the game with an 8-21 score on the board.
However, the Malaysian duo put up smashing performance in the following set and managed to level the score by taking it with a comfortable margin of 21-16.
In the decider, Kien Keat and Boon Heong did not let their Korean opponents to control the pace of rallies at any stage and remained successful in winning the set with a tight margin of 21-19.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong won this opening round clash in three games with an interesting score of 8-21, 21-16 and 21-19.
