Yonex Denmark Open: Sony Dwi Kuncoro sends Sourabh Varma packing in Men’s Singles round-of-16
Indonesia’s experienced player Sony Dwi Kuncoro found his rhythm back and showed his supremacy in Men’s Singles round-of-16 and overpowered India’s Sourabh Varma at the Yonex Denmark Open 2012 at Odense, Denmark, on Thursday, October 18.
The World Number 23 Kuncoro, who has been showing a remarkable performance in recent tournaments, played with aggression and managed to send Sourabh packing in a decent fashion in 44 minutes.
Indonesian shuttler was in tremendous form on court as he showed his elite skills and easily registered his mark over Sourabh in straight games with a decent margin on the board.
The spirited Sourabh, on the other hand, failed to continue his giant killing performance in the tournament as he could not match the skills and temperament of his Indonesian opponent and eventually crashed out without winning any game.
In the first game, both players showed a wonderful speed on court as they played with aggression but failed to create an early gap as his opponent played with precision and stayed close on score board.
Indian shuttler was in superb form in opening half and he managed to stay ahead of his Indonesian opponent until the end of first half by reaching at 11-8.
After the one-minute break, Kuncoro played fast and positive badminton and managed to make the score levelled.
Kuncoro controlled the pace in the concluding points of opening game and managed to snatch the set with a tight 21-19 score on the board.
In the second set, both players again employed their impressive shots to take an early lead but stayed close until the end of first half.
Nevertheless, it was the higher ranked Indonesian player who showed aggression by taking the bird early in front-court area and managed a reasonable lead.
The lofty Kuncoro did not execute risky shots in the ending points of second set and he managed to win the game with a four-point advantage of 21-17.
Indonesian shuttler proved his mettle on court and managed to surge into Men’s Singles quarter-final by winning the second round clash with a 21-19 and 21-17 score on the board.
