Yonex Dutch International: Viktor Axelsen sends Misbun Ramdan packing in quarter-final battle
Denmark’s upcoming Men’s Singles player Viktor Axelsen maintained his fascinating run as he stormed into semi-final after defeating Malaysia’s Misbun Ramdan in quarter-final battle of Yonex Dutch International 2013 on Saturday, April 20, in Netherlands.
Viktor, who is the top seed in Men’s Singles main draw of the Dutch International, elevated his play at the crucial stages and won the match against the lower ranked Misbun in just 32 minutes.
The aggressive Danish shuttler remained in complete control in the first set but he had to work hard in the following set to wrap up a straight-set victory by putting up the figure of 21-14 and 21-18 on the board.
Meanwhile, the seventh seeded Misbun could not put the things in the right direction in opening set. However, he showed his spark in the following game but failed to maintain his rhythm in the ending points and lost the match with a respectable margin.
In the starting game, the impressive Viktor showed a spectacular show in the arena as he executed strokes with dictating control from opening points.
The highly elevated craft and wonderful game plan assisted Viktor to keeps his rival in all sorts of problem in the arena. He stayed in dominating position all the way to take a convincing lead until the end of first part.
The aggressive Viktor remained comfortable in the arena after the mid-game interval as he played with the same speed.
It was a smooth sailing for the aggressive Viktor who did not face any reasonable fight from his rival and won the first set with a comfortable 21-14 difference on the board.
Misbun was again in all sorts of trouble in the second game as he received a hostile treatment from his rival who was flawless in the arena.
Until the one-minute break, the incredible Viktor remained consistent in playing with wonderful command and variations and stayed ahead on the board.
However, Misbun also showed a few glimpses of his brilliance after the one-minute break as he played with smashing precision and managed to make the score levelled at 13-13.
Both players progressed closely at this stage but it was Viktor who controlled his nerves in the ending points and won the set with a close margin of 21-18 and won the match in straight games.
