Yonex Dutch Open 2012: Dieter Domke outshines Christian Lind Thomsen in quarter-final clash
Germany’s Dieter Domke proved that his previous victories in the tournament were not a fluke as he powered his way into Men’s Singles semi-final after showing exit to Denmark’s Christian Lind Thomsen in quarter-final fight at the Yonex Dutch Open 2012 in
Netherlands, on Friday, October 12.
The talented Domke, who is ninth seed in Men’s Singles draw of the championship, had to dig into his arsenal and remained successful in thrashing his lower ranked Danish opponent in a hard-fought battle that took 41 minutes of top class badminton.
German player had to employ all skills that he had in his possession and managed to overpower his talented rival in straight games with a respectable margin on the score board.
The 15th seeded Thomsen, on the other hand, put up staggering show of attacking and fast badminton and kept of troubling his rival all the way until the ending points when he failed to maintain his focus and lost the match with a narrow difference.
In the opening set of this competition, Domke tried to put up strong show but failed to create any difference on score board as his Danish opponent was in commanding position at the initial stage.
Thomsen was in superb form as he did not let Domke to take lead in opening half and stayed ahead on score board at 11-8 until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Domke changed his strategy and started to put up strong resistance on court by playing with wonderful aggression and managed to level the score at 13-13.
German shuttler remained consistent in his elevated play in the concluding half of opening game and he won it with a close margin of 21-19.
Stung by the loss of first game Thomsen powered his way back by playing remarkable badminton in the following set. He was in superb form and took a stunning lead of 11-6 until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Domke again elevated his play and managed to end up the lead of his rival in the ending points.
German player remained on tacking the concluding points and took the set with a 23-21 margin on the board.
The in-form Domke finished up this quarter-final clash in straight games with a narrow difference of 21-19 and 23-21.
