Judith Meulendijks, one of the most spirited shuttlers from Netherlands, showed a wonderful performance in front of her home fans and secured her place in Women’s Singles quarter-final after defeating New Zealand’s Michelle Chan Ky in round-of-16 contest
at Yonex Dutch Open 2012 in Netherlands, on Thursday, October 11.
The spirited Judith, who is an un-seeded shuttler in Women’s Singles main draw, put up stunning show and overpowered her higher ranked opponent Michelle who was the fourth seeded player in the tournament.
Judith did not disappoint her home fans as she played with impressive precision in the whole competition and remained consistent in pre-quarter-final clash against Michelle in straight sets with a striking margin in just 29 minutes.
The fourth seeded Michelle, in the meanwhile, failed to show her brilliance as she played quivering badminton and remained unable to cope up with the impressive speed of her rival and eventually lost the match without putting up strong resistance.
Local shuttler started her campaign against Michelle in a stunning fashion as she played with remarkable precision and managed to set up a staggering lead at the opening stage.
In the meanwhile, Michelle tried her best to play attacking badminton by gearing up her speed but failed to show her brilliance and remained miles behind at 5-11 until the end of opening half.
After the one-minute break, Michelle managed to find her flow and played dominating game at net which helped her to bridge the gap on score board by reaching at 15-15.
However, Judith again managed to play impressive badminton in the ending points and snatched the first set with a 21-18 score on the board.
In the following set, Judith was everywhere on court as she played with tremendous speed and controlled the pace of rallies until the end of opening half by reaching at 11-4.
After the mid-game interval, Judith continued showing up her lofty craft and managed to grab the opening set with a stunning 21-11 score on the board.
The in-form Judith emerged as the winner against Michelle in straight games by a reasonable margin of 21-18 and 21-11.
