Yonex Dutch Open: Kristina Gavnholt overpowers Judith Meulendijks to take Women’s Singles title
Czech Republic’s impressive shuttler Kristina Gavnholt showed her craft in the arena and won the Women’s Singles title after crushing Netherland’s Judith Meulendijks in the final encounter at Yonex Dutch Open 2012 on Sunday, October 14, in Netherlands.
The impressive Kristina, who was seeded at number three in Women’s Singles draw in Dutch Open, had to work really hard in the title match to overpower her local rival and remained successful in winning the contest in three games with a close margin.
The un-seeded Judith, on the contrary, showed a great resistance to her higher ranked rival by playing at her best speed. She did not give up until the ending points of the game and despite losing the match in three games, made her fans happy by the way she fought in the arena.
In the first set, the Kristina was in all sorts of trouble as she failed to stop the aggression and attacking play of her local opponent and remained struggling on court.
On the other hand, Judith did not spare any chance for her rival to put up even meagre resistance as she executed powerful strokes in all areas and took an impressive lead until the break.
After the one-minute interval, Kristina tried to change her tactics but failed to put up good show and eventually lost the opening set with a 14-21 score on the board.
Stung by the loss of opening set, Kristina played attacking game in the starting points of second game and she managed to get a strong position by setting up a wonderful lead until the break.
After the interval, Kristina continued her elevated play without showing any mercy to her lower ranked opponent and won the set with a 21-13 margin on score board.
In the deciding game, both players showed aggression in opening half and stayed close until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Kristina showed aggression and managed to take a reasonable lead by gearing up her speed in all areas and won the set with a four-point advantage of 21-17.
Kristina bagged Women’s Singles title by winning the final contest in three games with a 14-21, 21-13 and 21-17 score on the board.
