Yonex French Open: Sony Dwi Kuncoro ousts Sourabh Varma in Men’s Singles first round
Indonesia’s impressive player Sony Dwi Kuncoro secured his berth in Men’s Singles round-of-16 after showing exit to India’s Sourabh Varma in the first round clash at the Yonex French Open Super Series 2012 at Paris, France, on Wednesday, October 24.
The un-seeded Kuncoro, who has been positioned at number 18 in Men’s Singles world ranking, played with tremendous control and overpowered his spirited Indian challenger while consuming 50 minutes of the court time.
Indonesian shuttler was in staggering form on court as he did not show any sign of confusion at any stage and remained successful in winning the battle with a convincing margin on score board.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Sourabh fought well in the first game but lost it with a narrow margin. However, he failed to maintain his elevated play in the second game and ultimately lost the battle to his Indonesian rival in straight games.
Kuncoro showed a wonderful aggression in the arena from the initial points of first set by building a huge pressure on his Indian challenger.
The higher ranked Indonesian shuttler was incredibly quick in getting the bird timely and he did not face any problem in placing his strokes in right areas.
Kuncoro did not show any confusion as he was in complete command of the pace of rallies until the end of first half.
In the meanwhile, the underdog Sourabh also played well and remained stick around his rival as he played positive badminton after the one-minute interval.
The score was tight in the ending points when Kuncoro increased the speed of rallies clinched the opening game with a tight 22-20 difference on the board.
In the following set, Kuncoro played with superb speed without sparing any chance for Sourabh to get a good rhythm.
Indonesian player was at the best of his form and he did not face any problem in setting up a stunning gap until the end of first part.
After the break, Kuncoro continued putting up strong show successfully took the set with a superb 21-16 score on score board.
The in-form Kuncoro left the court as a winner after beating his rival in straight games with a reasonable score of 22-20 and 21-16.
