Yonex German Open 2013: Chen Long outplays Tommy Sugiarto to claim Men’s Singles title
China’s Chen Long continued his winning run and remained successful in grabbing Men’s Singles title after defeating Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto in the final battle of Yonex German Open 2013 on Sunday, March 3, in Germany.
The impressive Long, who was the top seed in Men’s Singles main draw in the championship, played with staggering speed in the final battle and overpowered the eighth seeded Sugiarto in 46 minutes without dropping any game.
Chinese shuttler was in complete command of rallies as he played with impressive speed in all areas of the court and remained successful in defeating his Indonesian challenger in straight sets with a striking margin of 21-17 and 21-11.
Meanwhile, the lower ranked Sugiarto put up strong resistance in the opening game but failed to maintain his speed. He failed to elevate his play on crucial stages and ultimately bowed down against his top seeded Chinese rival without taking any set.
Both shuttlers performed extremely well from the opening rallies of first set as they played with spectacular speed and remained close on the board at the initial stage.
However, the top class skills and remarkable game plan assisted Long to dominate the pace of rallies towards the end of opening half and he managed to set up a reasonable lead until the end of first part.
After the mid-game interval, the top seeded Chinese shuttler stayed fully focused in the arena and remained successful in keeping a reasonable lead.
Long remained consistent in hitting powerful shots in targeted areas and eventually took the first game with a superb total of 21-17.
Sugiarto was once again in problem in the second game as he received a cruel treatment from his rival who was aggressive in the arena.
Until the end of first part, the lofty Long remained consistent in playing with command and variations and stayed ahead on the board.
The planned and positive play in the concluding part of second set assisted Long to claim the set with a superb 21-11 score on the board.
This victory will boost the confidence of Long for the upcoming All England Open which will kick off from March 5 in Manchester.
