Yonex Japan Open 2012: Zi Liang Derek Wong outplays Ji Hoon Hong in qualifying round contest
Singapore’s Zi Liang Derek Wong got a good start in Men’s Singles qualifying round as he played with precision and showed exit to Korea’s Ji Hoon Hong at the Yonex Japan Open 2012 at Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday, September 18.
The Singaporean shuttler, who has been working hard to make his presence felt at international arena for the last one year, showed a strong performance in his first battle in the tournament when he crushed Ji Hoon in a stunning fashion.
The second seeded Zi Liang played killing game in the whole battle by taking the bird early from all areas and managed to overpower his rival in straight sets with a huge margin on the board in just 29 minutes.
Ji Hoon, on the other hand, was in sorts of trouble while playing against his higher ranked Singaporean challenger. He could not take the bird early and remained struggling all the way and lost the match in a one-sided way with a huge margin.
In the first game, Zi Liang was the first who dominated the pace of rallies and created pressure on his rival without putting in extra effort.
Singaporean shuttler tested all of his shots in all areas of the court and remained successful in taking a stunning lead until the end of first part.
After the one-minute break, Zi Liang remained consistent in showing a great performance as he did not let his rival to catch up the score at any stage and managed to wind up the opening game with a fantastic 21-9 score on the board.
The following set was not different from the previous game as Zi Liang again showed his supremacy on court and took an early lead quite easily.
Ji Hoon tried to show his brilliance but he could not create gaps on court and also failed to finish rallies in an effective way. Until the break, he was far behind Zi Liang on score board until the break.
After the interval, Zi Liang remained positive and aggressive on court and took the set with a crushing difference of 21-10.
Zi Liang won this Men’s Singles qualifying round showdown against Ji Hoon in straight sets with a 21-9 and 21-10 margin on the board.
