Yonex Sunrise India Open 2013: Anand Pawar stuns Ajay Jayaram in Men’s Singles quarter-final
India’s experienced player Anand Pawar surprised everyone by putting up smashing performance in Men’s Singles quarter-final in which he outplayed his compatriot Ajay Jayaram at the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2013 at New Delhi, on Friday, April 26.
The impressive Pawar, who is the un-seeded player in this championship, continued his attacking and winning play in the arena and remained successful in crushing his in-form challenger while taking just 30 minutes of court’s time.
Pawar has been struggling hard to find a breakthrough in a major tournament for the last few years. However, he proved his elevated craft in the arena as he outplayed Jayaram in the quarter-final clash with a staggering 21-6 and 21-16 score on the board.
On the other hand, the young and spirited Jayaram failed to play positive badminton as he committed many unforced errors all the way. He could not manipulate the weaknesses of Pawar and lost the match in a lopsided fashion.
Pawar showed his aggression on court from the opening points of first set by building a huge pressure on his opponent.
The speed of the rallies was quite fast in first set and Pawar impressed local crowd with his unparalleled craft.
Until the one-minute break, the impressive Pawar was leading the game with a reasonable margin.
The match proceeded in the same way after the one-minute interval as Pawar did not lose his commanding position in the arena.
Pawar remained consistent in employing powerful strokes in targeted areas and grabbed the opening game with a crushing margin of 21-6.
Jayaram tried his best to play tricky badminton in first part of second game but he failed to create pressure on his opponent.
Pawar impressed the crowd with his lofty skills that assisted him to maintain pressure on his challenger who failed to produce good form.
The attacking and positive play in the ending half of second set assisted Pawar to earn the set with a superb 21-16 margin on the board.
In the semi-final clash, Pawar will be up against Japan’s Kenichi Tago who overpowered India’s Sai Praneeth B. in the other quarter-final contest.
