Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open Grand Prix: Tien Minh Nguyen powers his way into Men’s Singles final
Tien Minh, who is one of the most successful shuttler in the history of Vietnam, powered his way into Men’s Singles final after showing exit to Indonesia’s Sony Dwi Kuncoro in semi-final encounter at the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open Grand Prix 2012 in Vietnam,
on Saturday, August 25.
The top seeded Tien Minh, who is currently World Number 14 in Men’s Singles category, lived up to the expectations of his home crowd as he ended up the winning streak of Kuncoro by beating him in a commanding way.
The higher ranked Tien Minh did not face any problem in winning the first set. However, he had to work extra hard to win the second game with a tight margin and remained successful in defeating his rival without losing any game.
On the contrary, Kuncoro played quivering game in opening set and lost it with a comfortable margin. However, he stretched his higher ranked opponent to the limit in the second set but remained unlucky in the concluding points and lost the match with a respectable
score on the board.
The opening points of the match were quite entertaining when both experienced players showed their tremendous skills and pushed each other in all corners.
However, the local player managed a reasonable gap until the end of first half.
After the break, Tien Minh continued playing elevated game by injecting more power into his shots. He did not throw away any point by making un-forced errors and won the set with a wonderful 21-15 score on the board.
In the second set, Kuncoro showed his class by playing fast and controlled badminton. He took the bird early from all areas and managed to remain close to his rival until the mid-game interval.
Both shuttlers played thrilling badminton after the break and remained close until the score reached at 20-20.
At this breath-taking stage, they continued playing flawless game until 26-26 when Tien Minh showed his brilliance and took the set with a dramatic 28-26 score on score board.
The in-form Vietnamese shuttler emerged as victorious in this semi-final clash in straight games with a thrilling margin of 21-15 and 28-26.
