Yong-Kyu Lim, Danai Udomchoke sail into second round – Beijing International Challengers 2011
Yong-Kyu Lim of Korea eased past Marek Semjan of Slovakia 6-3, 7-6 on Tuesday to book his place in the second round of 2011 Beijing International Challengers tournament in Beijing, China.
Yong-Kyu Lim looked in commanding touch in his opening match at the competition as he required 1 hour and 26 minutes dispatching his opponent. His strong and powerful serving proved to be the main difference between the two players
as he took control of the points right from the start.
Looking for a place in the second round, Lim made a bright start to the match as he clinched four straight points on his first service game to open his account. Semjan also looked in a competitive mood as he held on to his first
three serve games to even the game score at 3-3.
Raising the level of his game play considerably, the Korean tennis pro made his first serve break in eight game to take a crucial 5-3 lead, serving for the set. Making it all look very simple, he pocketed the opener to take the
set score lead 1-0.
Having established complete control over the match, Lim continued to play his natural game freely in the second set as well. Breaking the serve early, he raced to 3-1 lead. However Semjan showed great fighting spirit to break straight
back to stay in the match. The set was forced into a tie-breaker after both players failed to break each other further. Lim claimed three straight points to end the match in great style as she fitting booked his place in the next round of the ATP competition.
Lim smashed nine serve aces and also dominated most of the points on his serve. Claiming an impressive 81 per cent of the points on hi first serve, he made most of the available opportunities. Playing the big points really well,
he proved that he can handle the pressure.
Meanwhile, number five seed Danai Udomchoke of Thailand defeated Hiroki Kondo of Japan 7-6 (8), 6-1 to move ahead at the Challengers tournament.
Both players displayed some high quality tennis in the opening set as it went into a tie-breaker. Ranked 209th in the Association of Tennis Professional’s rankings, Danai showed no signs of nerves as he played every
point on its merit to clinch the opener.
Loss of confidence resulted in a disaster for Kondo in the second set as the execution completely went out of his game. The Japanese managed to win only a game in the second set to let his opponent earn a straight sets victory.
