Yong Sung tenders resignation as Doubles coach of Malaysia – Badminton News
Things are certainly not going in favour of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) as another member of their coaching team; Yoo Yong Sung ended his association with national body.
Yoo Yong Sung doubled the trouble for BAM as earlier the badminton guru Rexy Mainaky stepped down and joined Philippine Badminton Association as national coaching director.
Former Olympic silver medallist Yong Sung was appointed as Men’s Doubles coach six months ago and he decided to leave coaching setup immediately after completing his probation period.
BAM coaching and training chairman Ng Chin Chai verified that Yong Sung has quit. He also briefed that both parties had a detailed meeting but could not find a comfortable zone.
He said, “He was confirmed after his probation and naturally, he wanted a promotion but we could not meet his demands. Yong-sung tendered his resignation without giving any reasons.”
The Korean badminton guru was given the responsibility to train national back-up players and he was assisting Doubles head coach Tan Kim Her and Pang Cheh Chang in supervising reserve squad.
Reportedly, Yong Sung was not comfortable with national coaching setup and he also did not like the criticism on his role so he decided to leave the post.
His departure can jeopardise BAM’s prospects in London Olympics as two highly qualified coaches left the association just few months before the mega event.
However, BAM secretary general Chin Chai did not look panicked as he stated that the authorities cannot fulfil every individual’s desires.
He said, “There is nothing much that we can do. We don’t have control over people’s decisions. In the case of Yong-sung, we just could not accommodate and meet his request.”
Yong Sung, during his probation period, guided Men’s Doubles team Mak Hee Chun-Teo Kok Siang to revive their past glory but he could not perform beyond expectations while training the other back-up shuttlers.
This was the reason that BAM did not give him the desired promotion and salary package after confirmation which ultimately resulted in his resignation.
Now, national body has a huge task of filling the vacant post of Doubles coach and former international campaigner Razif Sidek is likely to be appointed as new coach for national squad.
