Yong Zhao Ashton Chen beats Sho Zeniya in quarter-final clash at Singapore International Series
Singapore’s talented shuttler Yong Zhao Ashton Chen had to work really hard to win the Men’s Singles quarter-final battle as he narrowly defeated his lower ranked rival Sho Zeniya of Japan at the Singapore International Series 2012 on Thursday, August 16,
in Singapore.
The spirited Yong Zhao, who is the top seed in Men’s Singles main draw of the tournament, had to dig into his arsenal to prove his worth by ending up the winning run of the 10th seeded Zeniya with a tight margin on the board.
The higher ranked Yong Zhao played with confidence in the opening game but failed to live up to the expectations in the following set. But he proved his worth in the ending points of final game and managed to end up the match in rubber sets in a narrow fashion.
The 10th seeded Japanese shuttler, on the other hand, could not find a good start but showed his brilliance in the second game and levelled the score. However, he remained unlucky in ending points of deciding game and lost the battle with a respectable
margin.
The opening set was favourable for Yong Zhao who was also having the support of home fans. He played with precision and took a reasonable lead until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Yong Zhao continued showing his remarkable run on court and easily got a strong position in the match by winning the set with a huge margin of 21-13.
In the second game, it was Zeniya who stunned everyone by putting up staggering show of top quality badminton and took an impressive lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Yong Zhao tried his best to play attacking badminton but failed to stop the progress of his rival and lost the set with a one-sided 12-21 score on the board.
In the decider, both shuttlers remained close in opening half as they played positive badminton this time.
After the break, Yong Zhao played better badminton while remaining focused on court and managed to win the game with a reasonable margin of 21-18.
Yong Zhao won this quarter-final battle in three sets with a 21-13, 12-21 and 21-18 score on the board.
