Yong Zhao Ashton Chen ensures his presence in quarter-finals of Singapore International Series 2012
Men’s Singles event of Li-Ning Singapore International Series got another quarter-finalist when Yong Zhao Ashton Chen trounced Yuki Kaneko in third round match on August 16, 2012.
This epic tussle lasted for 54 minutes and both contenders entertained the local crowd with a commendable show of skills to register final figures of 10-21, 21-16 and 21-13.
The victorious shuttler locked the honour despite of losing very first match point whereas the opposing player squandered his effort in last two sets of the match.
Yuki Kaneko, who belongs to Japan, grabbed all the attention by stunning his high ranked rival in the opening game.
He launched a brisk attack and did not give his challenger enough time to get settled. He established grip over the game with a couple of productive rallies and doubled the impact by grabbing valuable points at a steady pace.
The Japanese campaigner finished first half with a notable difference and mounted pressure by accelerating the pace.
Meanwhile, the top seeded Yong Zhao made every effort to come out of this deficit but he could not hit the mark and surrendered after reading a disgraceful margin of 10-21.
However, he did not take much time to come out of this bad patch as he changed his strategy and enthralled the opposing shuttler in the very next game.
This time he unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and confined his competitor in rear court. His hard to pick badminton craft made the Japanese harmless and armless.
Yuki Kaneko, who was looking to transform his 1-0 lead into a straight-set victory, could not live up to the billing and kept trailing behind throughout this segment of the tussle.
The prime Singaporean player managed to tip the scale with a notable difference in concluding a result of 21-16.
Third set proved replay of the previous one as Yong Zhao again established an unassailable lead without wasting any time. He remained two or three steps ahead of his rival and swept the table with huge difference of eight points in 21-13 score.
Now he will be up against another Japanese campaigner Sho Zeniya and the win will take him into the semi-finals of the event.
