Yoplait Plus Yogurt? Anyone used this?

I was trying to find probiotics that I didn't have to swallow as pills. I can't swallow pills for the life of me. I bought some of this Yoplait Plus Yogurt and I will tell you... it has increased my bloating and gas since I began it. Is this normal at first when adjusting to probiotics? I think I read there are 3 billion in it. I eat one cup a day, and this is day 2. Thanks! I can at least say my heartburn has died down and I also was able to eat last night and not get sick with indigestion!

  1. You may have a dairy intolerance. These yogurt products are a good source of probiotics but they are also high in sugar which feeds the yeasts that the probiotics are trying to eliminate.

I would recommend that you visit your local health food store and see what they have ot offer in the way of low sugar probiotic yogurts or better yet, powdered supplements that you need to keep in your refridgerator (the refridgerated ones are the most live and active). You can take these in water or mix with some foods. These are a more powerful source and may cause less bloating. I would really limit the sugars as they counteract the effect of the probiotics in the body.

  2. It CAN be normal, but isn't always. It's great that you started taking probiotics in whatever way you can, and I would suggest giving at least a week to see if it's just your body getting used to it or if it is an allergic reaction.

What I mean is that the lactose from the yogurt or the FOS (which is food for the probiotics) could cause gas if your body is sensitive to either one (which could be a lactose intolerance or sensitivity). Also, it could just be your body getting used to it... it has to equalize and adjust to the influx of probiotics that it wasn't used to and wasn't expecting  ;-)

If you don't feel better within a week or so, it's probably an allergy/sensitivity and you could either take something else to help the indigestion or stop taking it altogether. I'm willing to bet you'll feel much better by the end of that week, though. Good luck!
