York Suburban boys volleyball team defeats Eagles by 3-1
Volleyball is a sport that has made its mark in a relatively short period of time both in the national as well as the international arena.
The game has achieved popularity amongst the males as well as the females of various nations. Seeing the enthusiasm of the young athletes for this sport, various tournaments are organised at both the local and the international levels. These tournaments
provide the necessary stimulus for the growth and development of the skills that these young athletes possess.
More often than not, the players participating in high school teams provide the right platform for the young athletes to be selected for professional level teams. Keeping this in mind, various schools have inculcated vigorous training programs that aim to
harness the potential of the aspiring athletes.
One such team that has been performing with a commendable consistency in this season so far is the York Suburban boys volleyball team. The Trojans were up against the Eagles on Tuesday. The match in which both the teams competed against each other was the
York-Adams League Tournament quarter-final. The last time that the two teams had to face each other resulted in a win for the Eagles. This time around, the Trojans came onto the court in order to redeem themselves and they were able to do just that.
In a thrilling match that went on for four sets, the Trojans were able to hand out a defeat to the Eagles. By the time that the evening was out and the Trojans and started celebrating their win by cheering with the crowd present at the Dallastown High School
while the Eagles were heading out of the court with heads hung low, the scoreboard read as 30-32, 25-21, 25-23 and 26-24.
As soon as the first set of the match started, both the teams went in for the kill. In a struggle to maintain dominance at the courts, neither the Trojans nor the Eagles were letting the other team take the lead for a long period of time. However, as the
match reached the final stages, the Eagles were able to seal the deal by bagging the opening set at 32-30.
The loss of the first set sent a wakeup call to the Trojans who responded by stepping up their game. This increased effort led them to win not only the second, but the third and the fourth sets as well.
The semi-final of the tournament in which the Trojans will be competing is scheduled to be played on Thursday. The venue for the match is going to be Dallastown High and the opponent of the Trojans in the semi-final is Central York.
