I have a purebred yorkshire terrier named Laicy and she is the sweetest thing i could ever ask for. But I know five people that say they have a "yorkshire terrier" but they are actually a yorkiepoo or another mix. I have been trying to find another yorkshire to adopt but my two favorite petstores only get yorkiepoo's (they get all thier puppies from good breeders and have huge cages). Is it just me or are there wayyy to many yorkie mixes and not enough pure yorkies??

thanx everyone, olivia

  1. Girl...you are brave to come on here and admit you bought a puppy from a pet store. Good breeders that only only supply mixed breeds? Are you sure you are the only one with a purebred and everyone else has mixed breeds? Pet store sell what is in demand. If its designer breed that are in demand, that is what he will sell.

  2. One thing, pet shops will always tell you they only get their puppies from good breeders! Everyone knows that pet shop puppies usually come from "puppy mills". You are right though about the mixes, which are now called "designer dogs". People are breeding them left and right, mixing them with any small breed they can find and they are getting too common. I actually saw a woman selling the cutest little pups that fit in the palm of your hand. She couldn't get $50 for it because they're just too mant out there.

I myself own nothing but mutts and I always will. My oldest is 10 and has never been to the vet other than to get shots. The purebred dogs I have owned all got sick from cancer to lupus, and I had some hefty vet bills!

  3. I hate to tell you this but, NO good breeder would ever sell their puppies to a pet store.  These are puppy mill puppies.  You need to do some research before you go looking for your next yorkie.

  4. First: No "good" breeder would breed mutts.

Second: No good breeder would ever even CONSIDER putting there pups in a pet store.

Those are mill dogs no matter how much that shop tries to hide the fact.

Find a rescue or reputable breeder.

  5. If you want pure breeds then the best thing to do is get yours studed.I happen to have two pure breeds yorkie studs that I would let breed with your yorkie *****

  6. Yes, too many mixes period!!!

Don't buy from a petstore, they are all money-making schemes!!! Look for a responsible breeder!

A responsible breeder usually has taken their dogs to shows and won awards. The most important thing is they have had the dogs tested for genetic disorders so they don't produce a litter of puppies that will only live a short sad life. (My dog only lived a year- I learned the hard way!) Breeding dogs is a huge expensive ordeal and very time consuming. That's why you need to either adopt a stray dog, or pay money for a good one. If you buy from anyone who doesn't offer registration papers for the puppy, and didn't get health clearances, they are BYB's and DON'T BUY FROM THEM!!!
