Yorkshire skipper Andrew Gale has said that his players are all set to the kick-start the latest installment of the Friends Life T20 campaign against Durham at Headingley, on Friday, with an aim to reach the finals.
The Carnegies warmed up for the Twenty20 competition with a convincing 91-run win over Bradford League side Cleckheaton, on Wednesday, June 13. The 28-year-old left-handed batsman said that the comprehensive win over Cleckheaton has been a morale booster
and his players are raring to go into Friday’s Flt20 opener.
“We are the best prepared that we have been going into the Twenty20 since I have been involved,” said the hard-hitting Gale while speaking to media reporters on the eve of the opening game.
“The game fitted in well to our schedule, it was a good work out and helped give the lads some confidence going into the Twenty20,” he added further.
Skipper Gale played a key role in Wednesday’s 91-run thrashing of Cleckheaton, producing an unbeaten whirlwind knock of 146 runs off just 60 balls. The left-hander said that he really enjoyed playing the match-winning century knock in front of his home crowd.
“It was good to come back to Cleckheaton,” said the Yorkshire skipper, referring to his belligerent innings on Wednesday.
“I really enjoyed it and it was good to score a few runs and this game has given us the chance to get some form going into tonight.”
The lanky left-handed batsman said that they will kick start their 2012 Flt20 campaign with the aim of progressing to the tournament finals, to be held at Glamorgan’s home ground, SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff, on August 25.
“The aim is to get to the finals day and it would be fantastic to achieve that.”
