England’s Division-one County Cricket Club, Yorkshire Carnegie, have bagged the services of former Australian cricketer, Jason “Dizzy” Gillespie, as the head coach for their first team.
The former cricketer has immense experience of coaching and will arrive in Headingley, Leeds, to take charge of things in March 2012, after his contract with Zimbabwean club, Mid Wes Rhinos, expires.
Yorkshire has introduced new coaching techniques in which there will be a separate coach for both the first team and second XI. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Farbrace-c81060 is currently training Yorkshire’s second XI.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Martyn-Douglas-Moxon-c74955, director of cricket, has high hopes attached with Gillespie and is optimistic that the pacer will play his part in improving Yorkshire’s cricket infrastructure.
“I received good reports from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 about Jason's coaching career so far. He has a vast playing experience, played in one of the best teams there has ever been and he's talking from a position of strength as far as the bowling
coaching goes. I'm delighted he's joining us and he's got experience of the club. I'm sure he's going to do a fantastic job," said Moxon.
Gillespie has had an illustrious career; the right-arm pacer was the driving force behind Australia’s bowling attack in late 90’s and early 2000. He, along with iconic bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Donald-McGrath-c60183, kept the Aussies on top of International
Cricket Council's (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Test rankings for a decade.
Dizzy played 71 Tests for Australia and scaled 259 wickets at a striking average of 26.13. The Aussie speed machine played his last Test match in April 2006 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. The 36-year-old took the coaching job afterwards and
has coached Australia A, Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045).
Gillespie is no alien to Yorkshire, he played for the English County club back in 2006-07 season. Though, this will be the first time he’ll be instructing the side.
The 36-year-old is looking forward to his stint with Yorkshire and is hoping to make a mark during his stay with the Carnegie.
“To be able to go back there in a coaching capacity is a fantastic opportunity. When opportunities like being first team coach come up you don't turn them down. The one thing I'll be bringing is a bit of fun and enjoyment, but
making sure our preparation is spot on and leaving no stone unturned,” said Gillespie.
