Yorkshire defeat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northamptonshire-c824 by 12 runs: Friends Life T20 – Match Recap
Yorkshire overcame Northamptonshire by 12 runs in a match of the Friends Life Twenty20, at the County Ground, Northampton in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Friday, July 1, 2011.
The visitors scored a fighting total of 144 runs in their outing, losing all their wickets in the allotted 20 overs. They were able to successfully defend the target in the end, restricting the opposition to 132/7 in their innings. Yorkshire’s opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johmari-Logtenberg-c67228
Sayers, was the top scorer of the match with 44 runs.
South Africa’s all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Hall-c1040, who is the skipper of Northamptonshire, opted to bowl first after winning the toss. He expected the pitch to become easier for batting in the second half of the game, but the conditions remained almost similar and
the decision proved to be a wrong one in the end.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Gale-c1039 and Sayers. Both batsmen struggled in the first couple of overs and got beaten with the swing and seam bowling of the home team.
Gale was unable to last long and was dismissed after collecting seven runs in his short stay at the crease.
The innings was then held together by Sayers and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Lyth-c922. Both batsmen grew in confidence once the ball started losing its shine. They played aggressively and put their side in a very strong position.
Lyth was the second wicket to fall in the visitors’ innings. He did a decent job though, scoring 30 runs off just 18 deliveries with the help of two fours and one massive six. He was also involved in a 71-run stand with the team’s opener.
Just six runs later, Sayers was also sent back to the pavilion after collecting 44 runs from 34 balls. He struck six fours and one towering six in his impressive knock, but would have liked to carry onto make a half-century.
The lower-order batsmen failed to make most of the solid platform laid by the top-order. Wickets started falling at regular intervals and there was no significant performance from the batsmen down the order.
The visitors were all-out for 144 in their innings. They managed to face the entire overs though, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Sidebottom-c2333 got out on the last ball of the innings.
Hall was in menacing form, as he picked up four wickets in the match. He used the conditions well and led the fight back for his side.
In reply, the home team was not able to get off to a good start, as they lost three wickets for just 27 runs on the board. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robin-James-Boyd-Moss-c86323 Newton scored 38 and 37 in their respective outings, giving some hope to their team.
The lower-order failed to bat aggressively though and the team fell http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 of the target by 12 runs in the end.
Sidebottom was in good form, picking up two wickets for 18 runs for Yorkshire.
