Yorkshire in lead, but Somerset sniff victory
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. The visitors ended the day on 249 for six on Thursday, May 26th, 2011
and will be looking forward to extend their lead above 200 at-least before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 come out to chase.
Earlier, Yorkshire had won the toss and elected to bat first and the team started off well with a 50-run partnership between the openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johmari-Logtenberg-c67228 Root. However, the team lost some quick wickets in the middle of the innings, which restricted them
to 358 runs on a good batting pitch.
The top score in the visitors’ innings came from wicketkeeper batsman, Jonny Bairstow, who scored 136 runs off just 169 balls. He batted really well and paced the innings nicely, smashing 25 fours.
Middle-order player, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Ballance-c1465, was also in a good touch, scoring 61 runs for his team. He was involved in a century stand for the fifth wicket with Bairstow. However, wickets fell quickly after the dismissal of the two set batsmen and Yorkshire were
all-out for 358.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Charl-Myles-Willoughby-c49674, who removed the lower-order of the opposition.
In reply to the first innings total of the visitors, Somerset went off to a tremendous start. Skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arul-Suppiah-c1084, put together 257 runs for the first wicket. Both batsmen looked extremely comfortable in the
middle and played with responsibility.
Trescothick completed his century and went onto make a big one for his team, ending up with 189 runs. He smashed 17 fours and four thunderous sixes in his marathon knock, leading the team from the front.
Suppiah also made most of the batting friendly conditions, scoring 95 runs. He would have liked to make a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 of a ton. His innings included 14 fours and one six.
Considering the brilliant start by the opening batsmen, Somerset didn’t post a massive total at the end, as the lower-order batsmen failed to make an impression. Middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Charles-Hildreth-c65540, scored 87 runs, but the remaining batsmen were below par.
The hosts innings was ended at 452, courtesy some good bowling by leg-spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adil-Usman-Rashid-c42011, who took four wickets.
Yorkshire’s second innings was a touch inconsistent overall, but the team managed to take a decent lead. Bairstow was yet again impressive and remained unbeaten on 80. He got good support from opener, Root, and skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Gale-c1039, who collected 67 runs
before being dismissed.
Suppiah turned out to be the surprise bowler for Somerset, picking up two quick wickets for his team.
