Yorkshire vs http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 – Friends Life T20 final – Hampshire seal T20 title
Hampshire sealed their second Friends Life T20 title in three seasons after they fended off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Lawson-Miller-c53037 led assault, and triumphed by 10 runs at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on August 25, 2012.
Both sides put in disciplined displays to beat the much fancied English Counties in their respective semi-finals, further booking their places to this year’s Champions League T20 - subject to a qualification round.
The final game of this year’s FL T20 had a slow start but soon gained momentum as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Miller-c76318 offered hope for Yorkshire, which had slid deep into trouble in their pursuit of a competitive 150 put on by Hampshire.
The target seemed a considerable distance away when Jonny Bairstow - the star of the previous game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852 – fell in the ninth over of the chase, which pinned back Yorkshire to 47 for 4.
However, the batting side soon had a new hero; a 23-year South African, who then single-handedly took the game to his opponent, smashing an unbeaten 72 off 46 balls, including 5 sixes.
And with 14 needed off the final over, Yorkshire remained firmly in the hunt for a famous victory, but were denied by the heroics of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Wood-c1254, who struck three wickets to seal victory for his side, leaving Miller stranded at the non-striker’s end.
Hampshire’s road to a battling total was also hard-earned. The top order, comprising of opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sean-Ervine-c2471 and
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Katich-c2543 added some quick runs in the final few overs, including 14 from the last six balls.
Yorkshire’s pursuit was halted after a reasonable start, where they posted 24 inside the first three overs. However, all changed in the next few overs as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mascarenhas-c912 again put his side in control by leading from the front. Playing with injury, the
Hampshire skipper dismissed his counterpart, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Liam-Dawson-c1840 had struck to send back Phil Jacques.
Bairstow’s wicket slowed the proceedings even further, only for Miller to take matters in his own hands. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wood-c98110, who then struck two more times to seal a memorable
victory for his side.
