Yorvit Torrealba keen to get off the mark from the bench for the Texas Rangers – MLB Playoffs
Yorvit Torrealba may not be in the starting line-up of the Texas Rangers for the American League Championship Series but the catcher expressed his desire on Friday, October 7 to play for the club and come off the bench to contribute. The club star talked
to the press from Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Rangers are scheduled to face the Detroit Tigers on October 8 for Game 1 of the series. The club will be looking to retain their crown from 2010 and it has the right mix of players to contribute well in the hitting and pitching line-up. Mike Napoli is the
first choice catcher for the series. The hard hitter and former Los Angeles Angels’ star has been having a phenomenal year so far.
His batting average of .320 in the regular season and .357 in the post-season has put Torrealba on top of selection considerations. The player has been a revelation since coming from the Toronto Blue Jays in the off-season period of 2010.
Torrealba had a fairly good season, as he went .273 in 2011. The player understands why he is not on the line-up cards and is doing well coping with the situation.
"I'm just hot right now," Napoli said. "Me and Yorvit have a great relationship, we get along, and that's just how this clubhouse is -- everyone gets along."
The player however is not looking to back away from an opportunity. He is ready to hit and catch if the Rangers want him against the Detroit Tigers.
"I think I'm known for a guy that will be working hard regardless," Torrealba said. "In the past, I had gotten to play every day. This year, I was playing every day, but [Napoli] is having an outstanding year. He deserves to be in the line up every day.
The year he had was unbelievable."
Manager Ron Washington has the choice to play Torrealba in the line-up but the skipper is looking to place Mitch Moreland on first base and David Murphy in the out-field.
