Yorvit Torrealba pressed for team losses despite good outing with bat
The Texas Rangers got off to a flying start in the 2011 Major League Baseball with back-to-back wins in the first two weeks. Going into May, the team is currently on 16 wins and 13 defeats.
Yorvit Torrealba feels that the recent losses to the team have come on close calls and weak advice to the pitchers. He blames himself for the poor support, even though his batting average is .291.
However, the catcher is not interested.
"What about calling a game"? Torrealba said. "In calling a game, I stink".
The player has the third best average in the American League and he has gone 9-for-21 so far. In the past 15 games, Texas pitchers have carried an earning runs average of 5.22.
"I guess it's good, but it doesn't make me happy", Torrealba said. "I just want to call a good game. Calling a shutout, that would make me happy. That would definitely make me happy".
Many see the Rangers pitching department lacking on the front but Torrealba thinks otherwise.
"You see the results, I take all the blame", Torrealba said. "We're not executing the pitches when we need to. What do you want me to say"?
How should the catcher fix it? He had a few words to share on the issue.
"That's a good question", Torrealba said. "That's a really good question. How to fix it? Watch tapes, make adjustments, talk to the pitchers and get it straight. Find a way to get it straight. We need to".
The catcher went on say that he is not trying to heavily criticise himself. He knows his role and even though he does not pitch for the team, he does have the ability to help the pitching squad.
The player stated that the team has a lot of talent and a sufficient number of experienced stars. The ballplayer stressed that the club needs to pull its squad together. The first two weeks looked good but it seems now that the team has lost its focus.
