Yoshihito Nishioka, Joao Pedro Sorgi sail into second round – 2011 US Open Boys’ Singles
Japanese tennis player Yoshihito Nishioka battled past Luca Corinteli of United States on Sunday 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to book his place in the second round of 2011 US Open Boys’ singles here in the City of New York.
Nishioka looked on top of his game in the opening round match at ATP tournament. The Japanese made a strong start to the contest by taking the first set within first three quarters of the play. Corinteli put up a great show in
the second to even the set score 1-1 and force the match into the decider. However, Nishioka continued to play aggressively and he outclassed his opponent in the third and final set to seal a memorable victory.
Looking for a second round spot at the prestigious Grand Slam tournament, Nishioka made a stolid start to the match. Breaking his opponent’s serve early, he dented his opponent’s confidence levels. Under pressure, Corinteli started
to make a lot of unforced errors and he eventually suffered a serve break. Holding a serve break advantage at 4-2, Nishioka needed only to hold on to his service games from there on. Doing so very easily, he pocketed the set to take the set score lead 1-0.
Unseeded at the tournament, Corinteli bounced back brilliantly in the following set. Holding on to his service games with ease; he created all sorts of doubts in his opponent’s mind. Breaking the serve early in the set, he took
a vital 3-1 lead. Nishioka broke straight back to even the game score and shift the balance of the match. However, it was Corinteli, who managed to control his nerves. Breaking the serve for the second time at 5-3, he bagged the set to keep the match alive.
Nishioka continued to play his natural game freely in the final set as well as he created match winning opportunities. Dashing a lovely forehand winner down the line, he seal the contest that lasted for nearly two and a half hours
on court 6 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre. Nishioka will be looking to maintain his current impressive form and make it to the final stages of the competition.
Meanwhile number fourteen seed Joao Pedro Sorgi of Brazil made it to the second round with a solid 6-2, 7-6 (3) performance against Thai-Son Kwiatkowski of America.
Sorgi started off very positively as he took the opening set in a blink of an eye. Kwiatkowski fought back well to take the second set into a tie-breaker. However, Sorgi turned things around easily for himself to close out the
contest with 7-3 tie-break score.
